INGREDIENTS TO USE

For general healing, postpartum, postsurgery, pre and post cleansing, weak digestion or high vata.

In general, food should be

  • Warm
  • Freshly prepared (no leftovers)
  • Organic when possible
  • Seasonal when possible
  • Well oiled (with ghee, coconut or olive)
  • Gently spiced

Make soups, stews, rice puddings and pilafs using these ingredients.

GRAINS

  • WHITE BASMATI RICE
  • WHITE JASMINE RICE

  • CREAM OF WHEAT OR RICE
  • QUINOA

SPICES

  • CARDAMOM
  • CUMIN
  • DILL
  • FENNEL
  • FENUGREEK – seeds or leaves (found in Indian market)
  • FRESH GINGER
  • SAFFRON
  • TUMERIC
  • LIME OR LEMON
  • SALT
  • PEPPER
  • PAPRIKA

FATS AND PROTEINS

  • GHEE – CLARIFIED BUTTER
  • OLIVE OIL
  • COCONUT
  • COCONUT OIL
  • WHITE SESAME SEED
  • ALMONDS
  • ROASTED TAHINI
  • ORGANIC WHOLE MILK
  • RED LENTILS
  • FRENCH LENTILS
  • YELLOW MUNG DAL

VEGETABLES

  • SUGARS such as rapadura, date and succanat, maple syrup
  • YAMS
  • DATES
  • ASPARAGUS
  • SPINACH
  • CARROTS
  • SQUASH
  • SPINACH
  • SEASONAL VEGETABLES

DO NOT USE

  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Tomato
  • Cheese (especially hard, aged cheeses – some fresh such as paneer and ricotta may be alright)
  • Meat, chicken, egg
  • Leftovers
  • Green bell pepper
